The Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska Board of Directors at their May board meeting in Kearney, Neb., approved a request by the Village of Snyder, Neb., to transfer to MEAN’s modernized Total Power Requirements Power Purchase contract, known as the Service Schedule M (SSM), effective June 1.
The Village’s peak electric load is approximately 2.2 megawatts. The Village previously was served wholesale power supply by MEAN under a five-year power supply agreement.
IRP process update
An update was provided to the Board regarding MEAN’s 2027 Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) process.
A resource criteria survey was completed recently by MEAN wholesale power participants to gather feedback on criteria related to potential future resource planning, demand-side management programs and other future electrification factors. Next steps include a modeling process based on the feedback of the survey.
MEAN’s IRP is submitted every five years as a federal requirement by the Western Area Power Administration (WAPA). It serves as an assessment of MEAN’s resource portfolio and as a plan to ensure MEAN’s ability to meet future electric load obligations. The IRP is expected to be submitted to WAPA by mid-2027.
Summer Load and Capability
A Load and Capability Report regarding MEAN’s resources was provided for the summer season in the wholesale power markets where MEAN operates.
MEAN has sufficient resources to meet resource adequacy requirements in the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) and Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) regional footprints. However, increased resource adequacy requirements by SPP and MISO is tightening margins to meet those requirements. The increased requirements being implemented by SPP and MISO is in response to maintaining regional grid reliability in their respective footprints.
Election activity
The board elected Duane Hoffman of Oxford, Neb., to fill a vacancy on the MEAN Executive Committee. The term will end at the end of the fiscal year March 31, 2027. The board also elected Jon Borer of Nebraska City, Neb., to fill a vacancy on NMPP Energy’s Joint Operating Committee with the term ending at the end of the fiscal year.
