The National Public Gas Agency (NPGA) held its quarterly Board of Directors meeting in June at NMPP Energy.
As part of the meeting, directors and utility staff from participating NPGA communities received an educational overview of the NMPP Energy coalition of organizations. The session also included an introduction to NPGA designed to enhance participants' understanding of the agency's mission, governance structure, and operations.
In addition, attendees learned about the key components of natural gas costs for member communities and the strategies NPGA employs to manage costs and provide value to its participants.
Approval of member pre-pay transaction
The board approved a resolution allowing for the City of Central City, Neb., an NPGA member, to serve a new customer/business under special provisions.
The Nebraska Legislature recently passed legislation (LB 548) that authorizes cities and villages that own or operate natural gas systems to contract with industrial consumers of natural gas within a 100-mile radius of a city.
Prepaid gas supply agreement update
The board approved a resolution to extend a 2019 pre-pay gas supply agreement with the Municipal Gas Authority of Georgia/Citi contingent upon achieving a minimum discount price for natural gas at the time of pricing.
The savings from discounted gas through NPGA’s pre-pay gas supply program is used to lower member fees for NPGA members.
Pipeline rate case updates
NPGA staff provided information regarding ongoing interstate pipeline rate settlement cases. Staff is monitoring rate cases in the pre-filing stage by Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline and Colorado Interstate Gas pipeline. NPGA members are served by six different interstate pipelines.
Gas supply management savings
NPGA’s Gas Supply Management Program resulted in total savings of more than $77,000 for NPGA members for the first quarter of 2026. NGPA uses Asset Management Arrangements (AMA) to provide savings for members on multiple interstate pipelines. Under an AMA, unused pipeline capacity is remarketed creating value to the NPGA members served by that specific pipeline.
The next NPGA meeting is scheduled for September 10.
