NPGA holds board meeting in June

The National Public Gas Agency Board of Directors held their quarterly board meeting in June at NMPP Energy.

NPGA Director of Gas Operation Beth Ackland’s report included information regarding benefits associated with being a member of NPGA in addition to the NPGA’s primary service of procuring wholesale natural gas supply.

Those benefits include:
• Continuous planning and analysis involved with purchasing natural gas, including storage and market analysis;
• Advocacy pertaining to legislative and interstate pipeline activities;
• Attending various industry meetings and communicating pertinent information to the board members that may impact individual communities.

Ackland also noted the membership fee for NPGA members has been reduced 76 percent since 2018. The reduced membership fees are due to a combination of factors which include a revised A&G allocation methodology, interest earnings and returns from natural gas prepay agreements.

NPGA also benefits its members by utilizing multiple natural gas suppliers and competitive bidding in procuring gas supply, resulting in choosing the best option for its members and through Asset Management Arrangements on interstate pipelines, resulting in savings to members. The board also heard other updates, including:

Industry and Pipeline Updates
NPGA staff shared information from attending several recent industry and pipeline conferences as well as regular market updates and webinars.

Public Gas Partners Update
An update was provided on the Public Gas Partners Pool 3 project, including the project’s hedging plan and a year-to-date operations review.

Eight NPGA members are participants in the project, which was created to secure economical, long-term wholesale natural gas supply for participating municipalities. NPGA’s participating members have a 2.2 percent participation share of the project.
