NPGA Board hears updates at December meeting

The National Public Gas Agency Board of Directors held their quarterly board meeting in December at NMPP Energy. The board received several updates, including:

Industry and Pipeline Updates
NPGA staff shared information from attending several recent industry and regional pipeline meetings as well as natural gas market updates and webinars.

NPGA staff continues to monitor rate cases filed by Northern Natural Gas pipeline and Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline. These two pipelines collectively serve six NPGA member communities.

Current Pre-Pay Transaction Environment
The Board received an update on the current market environment regarding natural gas pre-pay transactions. Currently, NPGA is utilizing five pre-pay related transactions that reduces NPGA’s membership fee by more than $430,000 annually.

Public Gas Partners Update
An update was provided on the Public Gas Partners Pool 3 project, including a year-to-date operations review.
Eight NPGA members are participants in the project, which was created to secure economical, long-term wholesale natural gas supply for participating municipalities. NPGA’s participating members have a 2.2 percent participation share of the project.

Natural Gas Delivery Overview
A high-level informational overview was provided focusing on where NPGA members’ natural gas comes from including physical supply, storage and basis pricing. NPGA supplies natural gas to its members through five separate regional pipelines, depending on the location of the member community.

Market Outlook
A current outlook regarding natural gas supply and demand including a market overview was provided along with a seasonal temperature outlook that impacts overall natural gas demand.

The next NPGA Board of Director meeting is scheduled for Feb. 5 at NMPP Energy.
