NPGA Board holds meeting in September

The National Public Gas Agency Board of Directors held their quarterly board meeting in September at NMPP Energy. The board received several updates, including:

Public Gas Partners Update 
An update was provided on the Public Gas Partners Pool 3 project, including the project’s hedging plan and a year-to-date operations review. 

Eight NPGA members are participants in the project, which was created to secure economical, long-term wholesale natural gas supply for participating municipalities. NPGA’s participating members have a 2.2 percent participation share of the project.

Industry and Pipeline Updates 
NPGA staff shared information from attending several recent industry and pipeline conferences as well as regular market updates and webinars. 

NPGA is part of a shipper’s group that is monitoring a rate case filed by Northern Natural Gas Pipeline in July. The pipeline serves three NPGA communities in Nebraska: Lyons, Pender and Stromsburg. The new rates are scheduled to be effective Jan. 1, 2026 subject to refund after the case is finalized. 

Staff is also monitoring another rate case, for Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline, which is currently in a base test period. Filing is anticipated in May 2026 with new rates to become effective November 2026. NPGA members Superior, Neb., Auburn, Kan., and Belleville, Kan. will be impacted by this rate case.

Markets Outlook
A current outlook regarding natural gas supply and demand including a markets overview was provided along with a seasonal temperature outlook that impacts overall natural gas demand. 

The next NPGA Board of Director meeting is scheduled for Dec. 11 at NMPP Energy.
