NPGA Board Notes: Nebraska City approved as new member

The National Public Gas Agency Board of Directors approved the City of Nebraska City, Neb., as a new NPGA member at their board meeting on Sept. 10.

Nebraska City (Pop. 7,222) was previously an associate member of NPGA. As a full member, the City will have representation and voting rights on the NPGA Board. Jon Borer, utilities manager for Nebraska City Utilities, will serve as Nebraska City’s NPGA Board representative and Stuart Abbott, manager of operations for Nebraska City Utilities, will serve as the board alternate.

With the addition of Nebraska City as a new member, existing NPGA members will benefit from a reduction in member fees. NPGA will begin supplying gas to Nebraska City starting in December.

The City has an average gas volume of 916,000 MMbtu and is served gas supply through the Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America. NPGA facilitates natural gas delivery to its members through seven different interstate gas pipelines.

Fort Morgan honored by APGA for safety milestone

NPGA member the City of Fort Morgan, Colo., recently received an award from the American Public Gas Association for 15 consecutive years of meeting APGA’s safety contest criteria.

Nebraska City Utilities was also among winning gas systems in their utility group category.

Central City enters into prepaid gas agreement
NPGA member Central City, Neb., recently entered into a prepaid natural gas agreement to supply natural gas to the Koch Fertilizer plant based in Beatrice, Neb.

The transaction was made possible from recent legislation passed in the Nebraska Legislature that authorizes cities and villages that own or operate natural gas systems to contract with qualifying large industrial consumers of natural gas within a 100-mile radius of a city.

The NPGA Board previously approved a resolution allowing Central City to serve a new customer/business under special provisions. The transaction results in increased annual revenues to Central City as well as a smaller annual revenue benefit to NPGA.

Prepaid gas supply program updates

The Board received an update on NPGA’s prepaid gas supply program. NPGA currently has five prepaid gas supply agreements. NPGA Member fees were reduced by nearly $450,000 through these agreements last year.
