The City of Fairbury, Neb., seeks applicants for a Water Superintendent. The position performs a variety of technical and supervisory work directing the activities of the personnel in a variety of water and sewer programs including but not limited to construction, operation, and maintenance of the City water and sewer systems, including but not limited to the City’s water pumps, wells, tanks, water treatment facilities, and related equipment. The position will perform duties relating to water quality, including water quality sampling to ensure the system complies with all applicable laws, rules, ordinances, and regulations. Operating a variety of equipment including but not limited to backhoe, skid steer, etc. will be necessary. The position will assist other City operations and perform other duties as required. Exposure to inclement weather conditions and hazardous chemicals are possible. Applicant will need the ability to read and understand mechanical plans. Ability to utilize computers and technical tools required. Applicant must be able to respond to emergencies. Excellent communication skills are required. It is a condition of employment that the individual possess a current Nebraska water operator certificate, grade 2, or obtain such within six months of hire. Finalists must possess a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving history. Post-Offer Employment Testing (POET), including but not limited, to drug screening, criminal background check and a Physical Capacity Profile will be required. Position will remain open until filled.
