City Administrator

Wakefield, Nebraska

The City of Wakefield, Neb., is seeking applications for the position of city administrator. Wakefield (pop. 1,400) is located in Northeast Nebraska in the southernmost area of Dixon County. The City is served by Highway 35 which is the main route between South Sioux City (35 miles) and Norfolk (45 miles). Wakefield is a diverse community with an excellent school system, good health care facilities, cultural and recreational opportunities, home to Michael Foods, Inc., and proclaimed as the Baseball Capital of Nebraska. The City is committed to maintaining, updating and expanding municipal infrastructure as part of providing quality facilities and services to its diverse businesses and citizens. The city administrator will be responsible for the overall coordination of activities among the government departments. 

Candidates should possess a bachelor’s degree in public administration or related field; a minimum of four years of municipal government experience as a city administrator, assistant city administrator or similar executive level position would be a plus. Applicants must be familiar with federal, state, and local agencies and jurisdictions and the corresponding programs, regulation, and requirements of each.  Strong skills in financial management, strategic planning, human resource management, public relations, team building, written and verbal communication, policy development, organization and multi-tasking are essential.

The position of city administrator is a full-time, exempt position that includes employee benefits. Competitive salary is based on qualifications and experience. Additional certifications, skills, and/or experience in areas such as economic development or public works electrical specialties are a plus.
