Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska Director of Wholesale Electric Operations Kevin Gaden was elected to the Board of Directors of the Utility Wind Integration Group (UWIG) at the group’s annual membership meeting April 16 in Portland, Ore.
Gaden oversees the short and long-term planning and operations of MEAN, which supplies wholesale electricity to 66 member communities in Colorado, Iowa, Nebraska and Wyoming and one joint-action agency in Colorado. MEAN currently supplies wind-generated energy from four facilities throughout the region to its participating communities.
Established in 1989, UWIG’s mission is to accelerate the development and application of good engineering and operational practices supporting the appropriate integration of wind power into the national electric system. UWIG provides a forum for the critical analysis of wind technology for utility applications and to serve as a source of credible information on the status of wind technology and deployment. The group includes more than 150 national and international members and including investor-owned, public power and rural electric cooperative utilities; transmission system operators and associate member corporate, government and academic organizations.
MEAN is the wholesale electricity supply organization of NMPP Energy, a joint-action agency consisting of four energy-related organizations based in Lincoln, Neb.
