NMPP Energy Annual Conference set March 24-26

Utility leaders and city officials from a seven-state region will attend NMPP Energy’s 34th Annual Meeting and Conference under the theme “All Aboard!... Take Charge Today… Stay on Track for Tomorrow” at The Quality Inn and Suites and Sandhills Convention Center in North Platte, Neb., March 24-26.

Formed in 1975 by 19 Nebraska communities that pooled their resources together to secure affordable and reliable energy sources, NMPP Energy today is a joint-action agency consisting of four organizations in the areas of wholesale electric supply, wholesale natural gas supply, retail natural gas supply and energy-related services. Its membership includes 198 member communities in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, Wyoming and Wisconsin.

The conference’s keynote speaker will be retired Lt. Gen. Russel Honoré, former commander of Joint Task Force Katrina after New Orleans was hit by Hurricane Katrina. He will present “Leadership and Preparedness in the 21st Century” at 10:30 a.m. on March 25.

Other conference highlights:

  • Jason Young, former senior-level manager at Southwest Airlines, will present “Culturetopia – the Ultimate High Performance Workplace” at 8:30 a.m. March 26.
  • Workshops on wheels tours focusing on economic development and energy. (Tours include community of Curtis, Neb., and Gerald Gentleman Power Station near Sutherland, Neb.);
  • Learning sessions focusing on topics for utilities and community leaders (crisis management, energy efficiency and demand side management, renewable energy, economic development, railroad safety and identity theft);
  • Project of the Year Awards for member communities and individual awards for innovation and dedication in the utilities field will be presented at the Awards and Recognition Banquet March 25.
