MEAN elects board, committee officers for 2009-10

The Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska (MEAN), the wholesale power supply entity of NMPP Energy, elected officers for its board of directors and management committee for fiscal year 2009-10 at its annual meeting Jan. 22 in North Platte, Neb.

Those elected to one-year terms as officers of the MEAN board of directors beginning April 1 were:

  • Harold Farrar, city administrator, Kimball, Neb., chair
  • Rod Fries, electric distribution superintendent, Sidney, Neb., vice chair
  • Ty Abernethy, city administrator, Mitchell, Neb., secretary/treasurer.

 The board acts as the final authority on rates and charges to MEAN long-term, total requirements participants.

 

The management committee officers elected were:

  • Tom Goulette, city administrator/utility superintendent, West Point, Neb., chair;
  • Bill Leung, general manager, Arkansas River Power Authority, vice chair;
  • Larry Naiman, assistant superintendent of utilities, Fairbury, Neb., secretary

 Among the committee’s functions is planning current and future power supply. It includes a designated representative from each of the 66 MEAN participants, which includes one power authority and 65 communities in Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming and Iowa.

Formed in 1981, MEAN serves wholesale electric supply and energy-related services to its member and participating communities.
