NMPP Energy Annual Conference set

Utility leaders and city officials from a seven-state region will gather as NMPP Energy holds its 33rd Annual Conference under the theme "The Evolving Energy Landscape" at The Cornhusker Marriott in downtown Lincoln, Neb., March 25-27.

Formed in 1975 by 19 Nebraska communities that pooled their resources together to secure affordable and reliable energy sources, NMPP Energy today is a joint-action agency consisting of four organizations in the areas of wholesale electric supply, wholesale natural gas supply, retail natural gas supply and energy-related services. Its membership includes 196 member communities in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, Wyoming and Wisconsin.

The conference’s keynote speaker will be Randy Udall, director of the Community Office for Resource Energy (CORE) in Colorado. He will present “America’s Energy Future, Challenges and Opportunities” at 11 a.m. on March 26.

Other conference highlights:

  • Dan Lambe, vice president of programs, National Arbor Day Foundation, Tree City USA, Tree Line USA, will discuss value and usage of trees at entrances and parks. (Thursday, March 27, 8:30 a.m.);
  • Workshops on Wheels: Bus tours of Lincoln, Neb., and Seward, Neb., focusing on energy efficiency and economic development;
  • Workshops on meter technology; benefits of utility rate studies; and renewable energy opportunities and challenges;
  • Project of the Year Awards for member communities and individual awards for innovation and dedication in the utilities field will be presented at the Awards and Recognition Banquet March 26.
